Top 3 kid friendly wine farm restaurants

The Cape Winelands boast gorgeous views, rolling lawns, good food and glorious wines. But with toddlers in tow, the venue must also have a  healthy food options for kids, availability of baby chairs, kids play area (within view and/or short sprint of dining area).

These are my top 3:

1. Weltevreden Wine farm, Stellenbosch

The estate is situated in Stellenbosch, approx 30 drive minutes from Cape Town. The wine farm has 2 eating areas, Lekker Neh restaurant and the Carnival area. Both have kids play structures, but the Carnival area is completely pimped out with shaded sandpit (my DD’s fave!), awesomely large play structures, small plastic bikes with ‘riding track’ and trampoline.

For older children, there is an interactive pizza station and small dress up area (Sorry no pics of those!)

The kids menu offers good food choices made with fresh ingredients (a friend ordered fish fingers, and we were surprised when 3 battered strips of fish arrived, not the boxed kind). The adult menu has a good variety (including Lekker Neh items) and all the food (and wine!) was really excellent. Sweet treats include mini desserts, slushies and soft serve (yes please!). Items are generally very reasonably priced.

Added bonuses: Child minders at play areas and designated kiddies toilet and baby changing area, in close proximity

This is also a perfect kids party venue, and we are planning DD’s 2nd birthday party here! so watch this space for more details.

Overall, top of my list for a family outing in the winelands, as it has a great balance of happiness for adults and kids.

See their website for map and contact details:

P.S. Contacting them was a bit of a mission (website limited and telephone numbers were not contactable) but after sending a Facebook message I managed to get a reservation. Definitely worth the effort and drive out.

2. Bloemendal wine estate: Bon Amis restaurant, Durbanville wine route

This restaurant is a quaint and beautifully decorated french inspired bistro&deli. They have an extensive kids menu (breakfast, lunch, dessert and organic baby food on request!) , with printed activities on the back. Entertainment includes a lovely jungle gym/natural style climbing frame and sandpit with ample lawn space for kids to muck about.

The adult menu has a wide variety of continental style foods on offer, and we enjoyed everything!

They also have a wine and sushi bar seperate to the cafe, which I cannot comment on, but hope to test it out soon.

Can’t find my pics, but I will update this post once I do!

Their website is fabulous, complete with menus and sweet doodles:

3. Nitida wine estate: Tables at Nitida, Durbanville wine route

This lovely restaurant has so much to offer, amongst others, great cake, a few small plastic tables and chairs for kids, and resident doggies strolling about 🙂 A friend blogged about it recently, so go and check it out at The Milk Memoirs.

Please share any amazing family friendly wine farms you know about!
